SOLO

Definition #

Names Rung 1 of the growth ladder (the operator with no hires/leadership team yet). “The [SOLO] who doesn’t run the [Future State] question is just surviving. The [SOLO] who runs it is building. Applies at every rung, not just [SOLO].” Also used elsewhere: “At [SOLO] (Rung 1) — there is no leadership team to consult.” Note: the other rungs on this same ladder — [Operator + One] (Rung 2), [OPERATOR + LEADERSHIP LAYER] (Rung 3), [OPERATOR + FULL BENCH] (Rung 4), [MULTI-UNIT] (Rung 5) — are already catalogued; [SOLO] (Rung 1) is the one rung missing from the dictionary.

Family #

Rung 1 of the growth ladder, alongside [Operator + One] (Rung 2), [OPERATOR + LEADERSHIP LAYER] (Rung 3), [OPERATOR + FULL BENCH] (Rung 4), [MULTI-UNIT] (Rung 5).

Why Behind the Thinking #

Names the starting rung so the Future State Lens question has a concrete anchor point: even with no leadership team to consult, the operator’s choice to run the future-state question (or not) determines whether Rung 1 is survival or the foundation for building upward.

Pairs With #

[Operator + One], [OPERATOR + LEADERSHIP LAYER], [OPERATOR + FULL BENCH], [MULTI-UNIT] (the other rungs), [The Future State Lens] (the question run at every rung, including SOLO)
