Definition #
The operator’s three jobs in cast development: (1) surface the desire, not assume it or project it; (2) match the development offer to the surfaced desire; (3) re-match as desire shifts.
Family #
People discipline. The personal column’s diagnostic instrument. The lead seeing the cast member as a human being is what makes desire visible.
Why Behind the Thinking #
Generic development produces generic results: skill-acquisition cast extract and exit, leadership cast get bored and exit, stability cast stay but never grow. The operator who matches correctly keeps the cast member developing in the direction they want to go — which is both the ethical play and the retention play. Mismatched dev is worse than no dev because the cast member absorbs the skills AND associates this place with being misread. Mismatched development produces faster exits than no development at all because it trains resentment alongside skill.
