The author is a romantic. The romance is hospitality understood as the shape life takes when it is lived well in relationship to living with others. Not life in general — life with. The other person at the table, the other person behind the line, the other person walking through the door, the other person the author has built something with for forty-four years. Hospitality is the discipline and the art of living well in that with-ness. That is the thing the author is in love with. That is what the scream is protecting.
