Why Behind the Thinking #

The report is accurate, lagging, and transactional — it tells the operator what the operation produced after the producing is done. The read is the operation itself: live, relational, immediate. The report cannot change what happens on tonight’s shift; the read can. That does not make the report unimportant — it remains the strategic instrument that sets the plan for next period — but it makes the read primary, because it is the only instrument that operates in real time.
