Leadership Has No Adjectives

Definition #

Leadership doesn’t take adjectives. Servant leadership, transformational leadership, authentic leadership — every adjective is a modifier on a noun that already contains the whole job. Leadership is leadership. The adjective is the consultant’s product, not the operator’s discipline. In this book, leadership is named by its verb and its domain: the operator leads the operation, the lead leads the cast, the trainer leads the trainee. The verb names the job. The adjective sells a framework.
