The operator trades future margin for present survival. Distinct from [Transactional Arbitrage] — which is the trade of relational equity for transactional volume. Different actor, different time horizon, different math. [Transactional Arbitrage] = trade against the room. [Margin Arbitrage] = trade against the future. Runs at any scale: brand level (corporate borrowing future to fund expansion), multi-unit level (MCA loans, deferred capex), single-unit level (personal credit card on payroll, deferred HVAC). Peer term to [Transactional Arbitrage], not a child. Four open tests before promotion: boundary test vs TA children; distinguish from ordinary debt/leverage (requires trade against future capacity + compounding cost + made under stress); word collision check on “margin”; Road 2 case under acute stress (COVID-era survival decisions).
